Gap Year Ski Options in US
Gap Year Ski Options for US Students
Over the past several weeks I have had the opportunity to do a bit of research on gap year ski options in the U.S. If you are a US student considering a year out before
college to follow your passion for skiing and traveling, and getting paid at the same time, then gaining a ski or snowboard instructors qualification with one of the following organizations may be worth consideration. Opportunities to become a professional, paid, ski or snowboard instructor with internationally recognized qualifications await you in the US or overseas!

According to Sarah Arkin at Educating Adventures Limited - a UK based company with operations in Lake Tahoe, California - their ski instruction program is popular with US students deferring college entrance. Educating Adventures Instructor Internship Program is their most popular program and includes a 3 week Instructor
Training Program (including accommodation) followed by a full season of paid employment at a top ski resort in Lake Tahoe. The only expenses participants incur during the first three weeks of the program are for food and entertainment. After the training portion of the program finishes Educating Ventures helps candidates organize
accommodation in Lake Tahoe for the duration of their internship. They also have a Program Manager on hand in Lake Tahoe for the duration of their internship. US
candidates are all either deferring college for a year or pursuing a career in the ski industry as an alternate to college. The program requires candidates to be available from late November/December until the end of April. Sarah said,
"We are unique by offering an early season training program enabling our candidates to receive their instructor qualification and then work a full season as a Ski/Snowboard
trainee instructor. Our Ultimate Internship Program continues the training throughout the season enabling candidates to become a Level II certified instructor and receive
Freeride, Avalanche, Backcountry and First Aid training and certifications. A great benefit of our program is that paid employment is included in the Internship, this not only improves our candidate’s future employability but also allows them to cover the majority of expenses associated with participating in the program."
