The West Africa semester features a one-month urban home-stay in the vibrant town of Thies, a two week rural home-stay in a sleepy agricultural village, a village-to-village trek in either Guinea or Mali, and NGO visits in urban centers. Students are provided with abundant opportunities to study language (French, Wolof, and Pulaar), learn African dance and music, hear from development workers, and learn from traditional and Islamic healers.
