During July, Planet Gap Year was contacted by a German journalist working for the German Press Agency in Washington, DC. The journalist was interested in writing a report about the increasing trend among US-students taking a gap year, and discovered PlanetGapYear.com by researching gap year sites on line. The journalist also discovered Lauren Rhode, a student who deferred entrance to Princeton University, and took a gap year in Morocco.
Lauren's gap year story is published on our site. Lauren volunteered, learned Arabic, and traveled as a participant with the Global LABS program, during part of her gap year.
Planet Gap Year creates new on-line promotional partnerships with two Denver based organizations eager to market programs to potential gap year students.
Up with People, an international youth exchange program offering multicultural education experiences, and AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civillian Community Corps), the residential national service program for youth age 18-24, have teamed up with Planet Gap Year. Both organizations are providing Planet Gap Year with a small group of motivated student writers who will blog during their respective gap year experiences.
Planet Gap Year has been on-line less than four months and we are happy to report that our site is building readership and gaining interest from students, educators, parents, gap year consultants and gap year program providers around the country.
